Spectacular Solar Eruption Observed

NASA posted this image of the Coronal Mass Ejection as viewed by the Solar Dynamics Observatory on June 7, 2011. NASA says the Sun "unleashed an M-2 (medium-sized) solar flare, an S1-class (minor) radiation storm and a spectacular coronal mass ejection (CME) on June 7, 2011 from sunspot complex 1226-1227."

C. Alex Young, an astrophysicist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, posted several videos of the spectacular solar eruption on his blog, The Sun Today. Young said the event had everything, "a solar flare, a coronal wave, a filament eruption, a coronal mass ejection, coronal rain and a coronal mass ejection." Take a look:
