Unfortunately, it appears that Hurricane Katrina has been the "big one" for New Orleans with the city now filling up with water from several levee breaches. The reality is that this hurricane season is not over. The peak hurricane month is September with September 10th being the peak date for hurricane activity according to NOAA. The active period generally runs until the end of October. The National Hurricane Center was expecting this year to have above average hurricane activity. Fortunately, there is not another storm for concern at the moment. However, the NHC is keeping an eye on a tropical wave 1,400 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.
